Peridot

Peridot is found in many hues of green, the most prized of which is a deep olive-green. The Ancient Greeks and Egyptions prized Peridot, and wore it for protection at sea. The name Peridot is derived from the Greek word "faridat" which means gem. Peridot is a soft stone, a 7 on the Mohs hardness scale, and should be worn with care. Peridot is the birthstone for August.
